How do we play?

1. Begin with the no prep, warm-up slides. Practice reading and writing the words that will be used for the game. Optional: Students use dry erase boards and markers to practice writing.

2. Choose your favorite way to play:

  • Two Teams: Divide the class into two teams. Each team lines up in front of the board. The teams race each other to see which team can find all 8 we spy phonics pictures and write the matching words. This quick paced game can be played again and again by mixing up teams or switching sides of the board.
  • Whole Group: Project the class game slide. Everyone works together to circle all 8 word family pictures and write the matching words. Students may come to the board and “pass the pen” to a classmate to find the next picture. Optional: You could set a classroom timer and try to beat your own class record.

3. After the game, use the black and white printable pages as extra practice or a quick assessment. You can also use the colorful practice page for centers, morning work, early finishers, small group instruction, and more!
